A portrait of: City University London

Internationality is the key to success at ISM. A semester abroad during the second year is therefore an integral part of the degree course. ISM cooperates with over 170 partner universities at which ISM students can spend time living and studying abroad. I have decided to give you a taste of student life at City University London. Hopefully you will gain a better idea of how to prepare for your stay abroad, and maybe I can answer a few of your questions, too.

City University London was founded in 1894. There are currently over 21,000 students enrolled at the public research university, which employs a staff of roughly 2,000. The university is divided into seven schools, whose courses generally focus on journalism, management and law. One of these seven schools is the Cass Business School, one of the top 40 business schools worldwide. Cass currently has about 3,500 students. This is, by the way, the school at which ISM students can spend a semester as part of their degree.
What I like in particular about the university: City University is situated in the heart of London. Its central location offers students first-hand experience of living and studying in one of the world’s greatest cities.

Furthermore, City University provides a Careers Network with over 2,000 City graduates, who current students can contact for advice and help. This means most questions that arise can be answered quickly and easily. I believe this is particularly helpful for overseas students, as it helps to build contacts and establish networks. City University, just like ISM, has a strong international focus. Many students from around the world are therefore enrolled at this university. In fact, City boasts students from more than 150 countries. Quite a number of them are from Germany and also from ISM.

However, when selecting a partner university, it is important to bear in mind which overseas university is available for which ISM course. City University London can be selected by ISM students on bachelor’s courses in International Management, Communications & Marketing, Finance & Management and Psychology & Management. City University is obviously a very popular destination for studying overseas. And this special place is definitely on my short-list of partner universities for my semester abroad.
