“Never miss a chance!” – Rosa’s path from workshop to working student at PwC

How do you get your first connection to the companies you want to work for? Especially as an international student looking to settle down in Germany?

RosaSenadTo Rosa Senad, the career events at ISM have played a vital role in shaping her path into the business world. During her Master’s degree in Finance at ISM Frankfurt she participated in a workshop held by PricewaterhouseCoopers at her campus. “Attending that workshop was the best idea I’ve ever had,” she says in hindsight. “Frankly speaking, as a foreigner with a limited knowledge of German, my expectations to obtain an internship opportunity were rather low. But the team I talked to immediately informed me that the language gap was not an issue. In fact, they pointed out that at PwC there was an international department. While they hire German speakers for German services, it’s possible to work entirely in English for consultancy services outside Germany.

Only a few months later Rosa started her internship in PwC’s international department where she could apply her theoretical knowledge in practice and contributed to various projects related to banking regulations. Now she’s a working student and writing her Master’s thesis with PwC.

“Never miss a chance and always take advantages of having new opportunities!”

Because she values the opportunity to approach company managers directly, Rosa has been to several Career Days and even helped organize them. “These events are really helpful in a sense that we can have direct contact with recruiters and more important, we can physically share our CVs,” Rosa explains. “The speakers also show us real facts, real structure of the business and tangible examples of the services offered. It is crucial to experience such events when we have only theoretical background as it broadens our mind and gives us the opportunity to assess which area suits us the best. I highly recommend these events to international students because it’s important to have guidance before entering the professional world and it’s easier to meet international managers and talk to them in English than applying through a German website.”
